The Diagnostic versus business consulting
A consulting project analyzes the business from the outside: market, operations, financials, org chart. It produces a deck and a roadmap. What it cannot see is the founder-shaped cause sitting underneath the numbers, because that cause does not appear in the data room.
Business consulting
- A project with a team, typically weeks to months, five to seven figures.
- Addresses the business: strategy, operations, market, organization.
- Output is recommendations and a roadmap. Execution and its risk stay with you.
- Treats the founder as a stakeholder to interview, not as part of the system under study.
- Right when the problem is analytical: market sizing, process design, diligence.
The Diagnostic
- One 90-minute session with one person, €2,500.
- Addresses the founder and the business as one system sharing the same blind spots.
- Output is one named structural cause, the evidence trail, and one decision you can act on within days.
- The founder is the primary source of evidence. The diagnosis is named in your own words.
- Right when the analysis already exists and the decision still has not been made.
Consulting and the Diagnostic answer different questions. Consulting can analyze a defined business problem in depth. The Diagnostic is narrower: it develops a testable hypothesis about which problem should be defined first, before a larger project is commissioned.
